SHADO Programs

Social Harmony and Development Organization has been working on various programs during the past few years, although it is difficult to run the programs by having limited resources, but still SHADO managed to keep the programs operative and functional, which provided great deal of help and assistance to the needy and poorer section of our community which needs lot of attention and love. Following are the programs which we are running for the development of the community mentioned as below:

Social Harmony Program

Social Harmony is a unique concept which was being introduced by Social Harmony and Development Organization in district Sialkot. SHADO have a talented staff, which grasp the techniques of the program easily by attending various training sessions organized by Christian Study Centre. The main focus of Social Harmony program is to eradicate prejudices, discrimination, narrow mindedness, intolerance, unfairness and injustice among different community living in our society. However, SHADO has tried to achieve the goal but still a lot of work needs to be done for creating peace and harmony. SHADO organized various activities including Seminars, Training Workshops, Dialogues among communities, walks, theater performance etc. SHADO has targeted all the classes of the society and has reached thousands of people representing Public Representatives, Lawyers, Government Officials, Civil Society Organizations, Students, Academia, etc. The Social Harmony and Peace Building Program is running successfully in Sialkot and SHADO believes that we will be able to end or at least minimize the hatred, injustice and intolerance prevalent in our society and will create peace and harmony in the society.

Social Free Health Facility For Poor Community Members

Social Harmony and Development Organization (SHADO) is very concerned on the health issues and problems of the community, and especially of women and children who are the most neglected one and to over come this issue and problem SHADO has organized a free health care centre in one of the slum areas of Sialkot.

Moreover, health care programs requires lot of resources and expertise, but SHADO has started Health Care Program with the financial assistance of an international donor and so far has managed to provide free health care facilities to the most deserving and needy community member of the target area. However, we need more assistance in this respect to keep the program operative and functional, so that the poor community may get a chance to avail free health care facility near their door step.

SHADO-WUNRN Workshop

Continuing its efforts to promote women rights, peace and harmony through gender equality and human rights, and elevate position of women community in our society, SHADO conducted WUNRN- SHADO Workshop in collaboration with Women's United Nations Report Network (WUNRN), USA based and global. The workshop was based on the UN Study, on Freedom of Religion or Belief and the Status of Women from the Viewpoint of Religion and Traditions, . Ms, Lois A. Herman, Coordinator, WUNRN and very involved at the United Nations came to Sialkot for participating in the workshop along with Ms. Barbara Forster, Chairperson, The Tandem Project on Freedom of Religion or Belief. The SHADO -WUNRN Workshop included multi sector participation, and also site visits to villages in the region.

Street Theater

Social Harmony and Development Organization has a trained theater team which actively participates in the street plays organized for the awareness of community members. The theme of the plays depicts various social issues and problems prevailing in the society. Before the final performance, the theme of the play is being fully discussed within the team, community members and management. The theater team makes numerous rehearsals, so that the message which SHADO plans to convey must touch the hearts of the spectators. SHADO believes that the theater team must be equipped with the latest techniques of theater and for such reasons, training of the members of the theater team take place on regular basis. SHADO has also invited various trained and experiences theater actors to train the SHADO’s theater team. The theater team has performed in various educational institutions, public gatherings, carnivals, street corners, villages, busties, and slum areas of Sialkot.

Social Rehabiliation of Children with Disability

Social Harmony and Development Organization (SHADO) believes that every member of the society should get equal rights and opportunities to grow. SHADO doesn’t consider any one disabled in the true sense of the word, but support them to become a part of nation building. SHADO started the Rehabilitation of Children with Disability Program with a view that they need more support as their family members of these disabled children often get fed up of them due to their disability. The main objective of the program is to facilitate the children to get proper education and medical facilities. SHADO provide tuition fees, school uniforms, books, etc so they may get proper education and also arrange their physical checkups, surgeries and provide equipment to disabled children, i.e. braces, wheel chairs, and clutches and coordinate physiotherapy exercises of the children with hospital management. All the expenses of the above mentioned services are borne by the organization. SHADO also give awareness to community members about the importance of providing social and psychological support to these children, because they are very sensitive in nature and need our encouragement and backup.

SHADO has organized Income Generation Activities for grown up children with Disability and their guardians. The program is being implemented very professionally and a lot of disabled community members are taking advantage of this important program.
SHADO is very positive in expanding the program and wish to support a large number of disabled children.

Income Generating Program

Social Harmony and Development Organization, SHADO believes that the poverty stands between the development of an individual and community and to overcome these issues, SHADO has started organizing income generation activities for the economic growth of the community.

SHADO has assisted nearly 20 beneficiaries to start their small business enterprise. A small amount of loan is being disbursed among the beneficiaries to purchase various materials and items used in their enterprise to gain income. SHADO also provide training to the beneficiaries, which is based on the basic principles of business, which includes banking system, book and stock keeping and marketing of their products. SHADO has provide loans to start various businesses like carpet weaving, reed making, grocery store, goat farming and poultry items, etc.

Relief Program for Earth Quake Victims

On 8th October 2005 a worse Earth Quake Hit Pakistan and numerous of citizens of the country were affected. SHADO arranged a Relief Program for the people of the area. The Relief Team distributed Rice, Sugar, Pluses, Tea Leaves, Salt and Spices, Dry Milk, Warm Cloths and Blankets and first aid kits to almost 300 most deserving and distress family members who were affected by the Earth Quake which made the lives of the earth quake victims miserable and depress.

Women Desk

Social Harmony and Development Organization, SHADO has a women desk and it is working under the supervision of BoD and Coordinator. Women Desk is responsible to take care of women projects, constantly visit women community members and gather information about their problems and issues and also guide them to solve the problems in which they are being indulged since long.

The Women Desk is very active in organizing regular meetings with the women community members in the SHADO’s target area. The Women Desk and women community members plan various programs and organize meetings to discuss problems and provide solution to women in need.

Translations and Publications

SHADO is determined to create educate the people about the importance of peace, harmony, tolerance and rights. As SHADO use street theater target illiterate or less educated community, it also produces, translate, publish and disseminate different books and other materials. SHADO has an expert panel of translators, how have years of experience in their respective fields. We also publish posters, handbills and pamphlets in which many social issues like human rights, social harmony and peace building, education, health, etc are portrayed.

SHADO has translated UN Study on the Freedom of Religion or Belief and the Status of Women from the Viewpoint of Religion and Traditions, by Abdelfattah Amor- Former UN Special Rapporteur from English to Urdu and has distributed it among numerous organizations and institutions. Translation of some other books is in process.
